Week 5 Entry

It has now been 5 weeks since I started this project. This week I did the fourth group of ten Hiragana characters. I am almost done with Hiragana! Next week I will be finished learning Hiragana, but I will need to continue practicing writing them. The book has many exercises that have you writing words and sentences with the characters. I am not having a hard time remembering the characters because they are pretty simple. Some are similar, though, so I sometimes write the wrong one down.

In the conversation book, I did chapters 5, 6, and 7. These chapters were pretty long. Chapter 5 went over conjugation, chapter 6 went over more grammar essentials, and chapter 7 went over numbers. The grammar is kind of challenging because it is different than English. I learned that when we put -ing on the end of a word, Japanese puts -te on the end of a word. For example, watching is translated as mi Japanese and to make it "watching", you add te, so it would be mi-ti. To say "Sarah is watching TV," it would be Sarah-wa terebi-o mi-te i-masu. I-masu means "is" in present tense. I learned some more conjugations as well and then got into numbers. I can count to 20 at least. ichi, ni, san, yon, go, roku, nana, hachi, kyu, ju...

I have also been learning greetings and phases, but I am not really keeping track of how much I am learning. I have a little translation book that has pretty pictures of Japan and lots of facts in it about Japan. I really like this book, I keep it in my bag.

I watch Youtube videos of English speakers who are living in Japan or visiting there. I have been watching some of these people for several years. I know at least 3 who are from Canada and 1 from Australia. I also watch a woman named Megan who has been living in South Korea for about 8 years. I am pretty much fascinated by their daily lives living in another country. I have learned that Asian countries like Japan, South Korea, and China don't sell big shoe sizes. I probably wouldn't be able to buy shoes because the shoe sizes are small. The clothes also run small and face make-up is mostly pale. I probably wouldn't have a hard time finding a foundation color ha. I want to continue learning about different cultures.
